John P. Hennessy
1946 - 2021
John was born in Syracuse on July 24, 1946, to parents Clifford and Margaret Hennessy. Along with his older sister, Anne Hennessy McCarthy, the Hennessy family lived in the Tipperary Hill neighborhood. John attended Saint Patrick’s School in Syracuse and was a graduate of Auburn College.
He later served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in both Turkey and the Philippines during the Vietnam War.
John met his wife, Florine, at Syracuse China. They were married in February of 1969 and moved to Clark Airforce Base (Philippines) while serving in the United States Airforce. It was here that their son James (Jamie) was born. Later the couple moved to Clay, New York where their two daughters, Elizabeth and Jennifer were born.
John worked 40 years for the United States Federal Government as a revenue officer. He was a Red Cross Volunteer, often traveling across the country to help victims of natural disasters. John enjoyed watching Yankee baseball games, caring for his yard and spending time with his wife, children and especially grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Florine Pascarella Hennessy; children James (Melanie) Hennessy, Elizabeth (Thomas) Chavoustie,and Jennifer (Aaron) Brown; grandchildren Clay, Cole, Bella, Isabelle,Hayden, Leah, Ellie and Westin; and sister Anne (Lee) McCarthy.
Calling hours will be Friday August 27th, from 4-7 PM at New Comer, North Syracuse. A mass will be held on Saturday August 28th at 10 AM at St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale, NY.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Red Cross, 344 W Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13202.
