Yvonne M. (Oliver) Hooker, 75, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2022. She was born to the late Thomas and Marjorie (St. John) Oliver and raised in Baldswinsville, NY. She graduated from Baldwinsville Central Schools, received her undergraduate degree at Alma College and her graduate degree from Syracuse University.
Yvonne transformed her love of art into a successful career by working as an Art teacher at East Syracuse-Minoa School District for 35 years. Upon retirement, she continued to substitute teach for an additional 20 years because being surrounded by her students kept her young at heart. Yvonne was known for her quirky, fun-loving personality and had a heart of gold. Her style was full of zhuzh that was as bold as her personality. She was an active member of her community belonging to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Updowntowners, Clayscapes, American Wine Society and other various organizations. She also volunteered at Spay and Neuter Syracuse (SANS). During her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, socializing with her beloved friends, going to the Farmer's Market, supporting local music and restaurants, and enjoying the finer things in life.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Fred Oliver.
Yvonne is survived by two daughters, Rochelle Hooker of CA and Karale Hooker of NY, sister, Rosanne Harris of PA, two nephews, several cousins and her beloved cat, Clark.
A celebration of Yvonne's life will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Syracuse Suds Factory River Grill in Baldwinsville, NY between 2 – 4pm
