William (Bill) McDermott, 90, of Cicero, New York passed away on February 25, 2019.
For more than 50 years Bill and his family resided in the town of Cicero. He was among the first graduating class of 1951 at LeMoyne College and served as a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army Reserves until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1964.
Bill had a rewarding career at Allied Chemical in Solvay until the company's closing in 1986. He spent his retirement years as an avid golfer at several central New York golf courses including making a hole-in-one during an especially good round of golf. Spending time at his family's summer home as a youth on Oneida Lake inspired him to acquire the camp in the 1960's and convert it into a year-round residence where he and Esther raised their children.
Bill was a loving husband and father who was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Esther (Forth) McDermott in January 2019; and a daughter Maureen Ann McDermott in 1966.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Patrick) Herbert of Bridgeport, NY; his son, Charles (Susan) McDermott of Scottsdale, AZ; and his cherished grandchildren; Dr. Maureen McDermott of Massachusetts, Amanda Herbert of California, Christopher (Alexandra) McDermott; and a great grandson Chase McDermott of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
At Bill's request there will be no services. Family and friends wishing to honor his memory may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society.
