Heaven gained the sweetest soul. William J. Mattus, 77, of Pennellville, passed away peacefully and was reunited with his beloved wife, Nancy and his pet pig, Harley on May 4th.
He was born on December 24, 1945 in Worcester, MA to the late Ruth and Joseph Mattus. After graduating from South High and having a love for airplanes, he joined the Air Force. During his service, his travels brought him to Syracuse where he met his future wife, Nancy Timson at Hancock Airport. They were married in 1968 and together raised two daughters. He retired from Owens Illinois after decades of service.
William was known for his quick, dry sense of humor and never lost his youthful love of building and flying model airplanes. He was also an avid star gazer with a collection of telescopes.
He was the best Dad in the whole wide world and his grandchildren's biggest fan, never missing an opportunity to be at concerts, dance recitals and lacrosse games.
William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy and his brother, Joseph Mattus.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Bonnie (Kevin) Smith and Stacie (Todd Abry) Mattus and grandchildren, Riley, Olivia and Emma.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 11th from 3-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals with a service and military honors to follow at 6pm.
His daughters would like to thank the nursing staff on the 6th floor of Crouse Irving for their compassionate care.
