William (Bill) Grey Johnson, Jr., 90 of North Syracuse, passed away on Friday at Menorah Park. He was born in Beckley, WV, and grew up on a farm in southwestern Virginia near Covington. Following high school, he served in the US Navy, during WW II as an Electrical Technician. After his Naval Service, Bill enrolled in West Virginia University and graduated with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951. While at the university, he was a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies. After graduation, Bill worked at General Electric for the next 37 years: the first 9 years in the TV Receiver Dept. and the following 28 years in the Heavy Military Electronics Dept. where he worked on radar, sonar and other military projects. Bill was a member of the GE Elfun Society and a LicensedProfessional Engineer in NY State. He retired from GE in 1988 as a Technical Manager.
Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, golfer and auto mechanic. He enjoyed playing the harmonica. He was a longtime member of Pitcher Hill community Church, where he earlier served as a Deacon and later as an Elder.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Catherine; two daughters; Sharon Hambrecht, Clay, Patricia (Charles) Bisgaier, Ann Arbor, MI, two sons; David (Michele), Cicero, Gregory (Susan), Liverpool, 10 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Justine Nolen.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-12 noon at Pitcher Hill Community Church, 605 Bailey Rd., N. Syracuse, with services at 12 noon. Burial will take place at Onondaga Veterans Cemetery.
