William E. "Bill" Markley,
William E. "Bill" Markley,83, of Manlius, passed away peacefully at home with his family Friday.
Bill graduated from Syracuse University School of Architecture. He was a former partner at Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw and Folley Architects.
Bill and his wife Ginger moved to Manlius in 1959 where they raised their four children. Bill was very much a family man, taking his family camping in the Adirondacks or to Cape Cod most summers. Winter sports were also something the family took part in, especially skiing at Cazenovia Ski Club. 1972 was a turning point for Bill when he realized his need for a relationship with Jesus Christ. This led to the family becoming involved with churches and Christian organizations around the area. Bill and Ginger always had an open house where visitors from overseas were welcome, as well as friends and family of their children.
Bill never lost his love of the outdoors; he continued downhill and cross country skiing as well as bicycling around local roads, very often totaling 1000 miles in a summer, until a few years ago. He also enjoyed being part of family trips to the Adirondacks with children and grandchildren. In recent years he wasn't able to get about as easily but still loved to sit outside at the house, enjoying the wildlife that wandered through or watching the stars at night.
Bill was a loving husband and father, a very humble man, who will be very much missed by his family and all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ginger Markley; his children, Greg, Karen (Craig) Cartwright, Jeff (Murn) and Steve (Kathy); six grandchildren, Megan, Jordan, Lauren, Brian, Jared and Hope; two brothers, Jim (Celeste) and Bob (Lorraine) and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 on Friday, August 9th at Eastern Hills Bible Church, 4600 Enders Road, Manlius.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice or Teen Challenge Syracuse.
Isaiah 40:28-31
New International Version (NIV)
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
