William "Bill" D. Dougherty

William "Bill" D. Dougherty, 71, of East Syracuse, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday, after a courageous battle with cancer. The son of William F. and Hazel Dougherty, was born and raised on the northside of Syracuse. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse Area, he proudly served his community, church and country. He was an Airplane mechanic in the US Air Force and the NY Air National Guard. He loved working on the Flight Line. Bill belonged to the NYAir National Guard, 174th Alumni Assn. He worked for Gene's Decorations, Switz's, Natures Touch and Maines, during his long retail career. He enjoyed working with the public and pleasing his customers. Bill always had a smile and a joke for everyone. He was a great animal lover. He cherished his pets and animals in jeopardy.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Patricia Dougherty; children, Patricia Peters, Kelley Dougherty, Kathy (Eric) Heil, Karin (David) Thorne, Kris Glassford; and seven grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours or service.
