William C. Bookheimer

March 20, 1927 — November 30, 2023

William "Bill" Curtiss Bookheimer of Parish NY passed away November 30th at the age of 96.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Weaver Bookheimer, his son Wm. Ross Bookheimer and wife Joyce Brocaglia; his daughter Susan Yost Bookheimer; Step-son Bill Alsworth and wife Krista; grandchildren and step-grandchildren Danielle, Austin, Tess, Leah, Kelly, Cory, Katie and Will, and three great-grandchildren.

He is pre-deceased by his son, Peter Curtiss Bookheimer and dearly missed by his son's partner, Michael Brown.

Bill was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1927. A self-made man, Bill was born into a large family of modest means yet carved out a successful career as a physicist. He joined the Navy at age 17 towards the end of World War II. With the GI Bill, he attended the University of Pennsylvania at Ursinus, where he majored in Physics. Working for RCA, General Electric and Mitre Corp, he developed radar and sonar systems in their Heavy Military Electronic Divisions.

A man of logic and reason, he diligently read the New York Times, pontificated on politics, and staunchly supported the Democratic Party. He loved wine, listening to classical music, debating current events and adored his wife Nancy. In retirement, Bill volunteered for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, helping with their digital technology. Bill happily drove his Fiat Spyder convertible until the age of 95.

He will be sorely missed by his extended friends and family.
