Wayne Douglas Murray, Jr.
August 17, 2013

Wayne Douglas Murray Jr. passed away to eternal life with Lord Jesus at the age of 72 on August 17, 2013 in Syracuse, NY, after a battle with prostate cancer.
Wayne ("Douglas") was born in the Bronx, New York, the second of four children born to Wayne Douglas Murray Sr. and Mabel Murray. Wayne married Marion O'Brien of Queens, NY in 1962 and divorced after 28 years of marriage.

He lived in East Meadow, NY for approximately 25 years until moving to Tucson, AZ in 1989. Wayne resided in Tucson for 23 years and moved to Liverpool, NY in August of 2012 in order to be near family members.

Wayne worked as a waiter, independent contractor, carpenter and artist. He enjoyed running and completed 3 marathons. He loved hiking, biking, old and new movies and nature, particularly the Long Island shore, the changing of the seasons of upstate NY and the scenic desert beauty of Tucson. Wayne was very intellectual and had a passion for knowledge, admiring great thinkers like Albert Einstein. Another great passion he had was art, including photography, collage, woodworking and sculpture. Wayne created a large cross sculpture for his church St. Francis in Tucson, AZ, of which he was quite proud.

While living in Tucson, Wayne provided loving care and companionship to his elderly mother, Mabel Murray, until her passing in 2009 at the age of 97. With his mother and sisters he often indulged in his love of singing and maintained a healthy sense of humor and grateful heart. These things were surely helpful to him throughout his life, and particularly toward the end of his life, as he struggled with the effects of his illness. He often said he had a good blessed life. A phrase he often said was it's a friendly universe, loving God and a wonderful life. He remarked toward the end, "It's still a wonderful life."

Wayne is survived by three children, Janet (Richard) Ferrante of Liverpool, NY, Mark (Denise) Murray of North Syracuse, NY and Sharon (Richard) Scott of Merrick, NY; four grandchildren, Peter and Jeremiah Ferrante, Kaleigh and Lyndsey Murray..

Wayne leaves behind his three beloved sisters, Carol Gerson of Meriden, Connecticut, Barbara Murray Grinnell of Tucson, Arizona and Susan Murray of Moore, Oklahoma, and his ex-honey Marion, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A special thanks to his good friend Jeanie McMaster, he often remarked how she has been with me through this whole illness.

He enjoyed his times at Skaneateles Lake too.

Wayne Murray's family would like to thank the many fine doctors, nurses, and staff of Upstate University Hospital for all the kind, compassionate care given during his illness.

Visitation will be from 2-4PM with a funeral service immediately following at 4PM Friday at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse.
