Warren S. Lum

Warren S. Lum, 91, formerly of Warners, NY and Cincinnatus, NY, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 26, 2012 in Idaho Falls, ID. He was born on October 2, 1920 in Union, NJ, the son of the late David Potter Lum and Ruth Bloodgood Harned Lum. He had four siblings, David, Allen, Milton and Elizabeth Lum. Warren married Loueva Martha Stone on December 12, 1945.
Warren joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served as a bombardier on a "flying fortress" until December 1945. In 1947, he graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation he was hired by Crouse-Hinds Company where he worked until retirement. He developed many patents, worked in the outdoor light division and finished his career in quality control. Warren also served as a member and officer in the International Electrical Society.
He is survived by his sons Donald (Elizabeth) of Warners, NY, Richard (Elizabeth) of Idaho Falls, ID; and John (Karen) of Mercersburg, PA; brothers Allen of Syracuse, NY and David of Burgess Junction, WY. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Warren is preceded in death by his wife Martha in 2008, brother Milton, and sister Elizabeth.
Warren enjoyed outdoor activities that included boating, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed fixing, building and creating things and was always involved in one project or another. He especially loved making things for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether it was handmade calendars, paintings or miniature wooden animals.
Warren was always ready with a quick joke or funny quip that was simply known as that "Lum" humor. He loved playing board and card games and having friends and family over to visit.
Warren was a member of the First Baptist Church of Memphis, New York where he also served as a trustee. After his retirement, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus, New York.
Calling hours will be at Newcomer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 2608 Church Street, Cincinnatus, New York at 10:30 AM Wednesday with burial at the Pitcher Cemetery in Pitcher, New York.
