Walter Uhlig of Cicero, NY, went peacefully to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 1, 2022. He lived 84 years marked by tremendous faith, love, generosity and strength.
Walter was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn (Collins) of 63 years. He is survived by his four children Terri (David) Mazzye, Ronald (Mary) Uhlig, Tracy (Patrick) Hickey and Pamela (Edward) Mertens. Six grandchildren Michael (Doreen) Mazzye, Maureen (Darren) Geibel, Scott (Kristin) Hickey, Devin Mertens, Drew Mertens, Ryan Skeen and 10 great grandchildren.
Walter grew up in Murrysville, PA. He graduated high school from Staunton Military Academy in Virginia. He received his Bachelor's degree in Education from Clemson University where he played football, basketball and track. After graduating from college, he taught Biology and coached football in Wilkinsburg, PA. In 1965, he moved to Cicero and worked for the North Syracuse Central School District. There he was a Biology Teacher, Dean and Associate Principal. He was an avid sports fan and loved working with children. He was able to do this while working as a football & track coach for the district. He had a deep faith in God and loved helping out at Believers Chapel and Renovation Church where he and his wife attended.
There will be a Celebration of Life for both Walter & Carolyn Uhlig on Thursday, January 6th at 6:30 p.m. at Renovation Church, 118 Josephine Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212. You can also view the ceremony virtually at www.renovation315.org/uhligs.
Private services will be at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 Main Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, January 7th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Renovation Church, 118 Josephine Street, North Syracuse, NY 13212 or Keepsake VIllage @ Greenpoint, 138 Old Liverpool Road, Liverpool, NY 13088.
