Walter Daniel Scott

1939 — 2025

Walter D. (Daniel) Scott, passed away on February 2, 2025, is a native of Norristown, PA, but a long-time resident of Troy, NY.

Walter & family (James & Elsie Scott) came to Troy, NY sometime in the ’50s, along with his five siblings including his twin brother, James (Jimmie) Donald Scott.

As the Scott family settled in Troy, they first joined Liberty Presbyterian Church located on State St in Troy with Rev. Talmadge Murry as pastor. After the dissolution of that church and merged into another local church, the family joined A.M.E. Zion, 189 Fifth Ave, N. Troy NY. After a few years of close fellowship and a friend’s association at Bethel, Walter joined Bethel Baptist, with his family’s blessings and was soon baptized under the pastorate of Rev. Allen A. Stanley. From that time on, Walter has been active in various ministries within the church, most notably his interest and membership in the “former” Gospelaries (now RVS), the Male Chorus from its inception, and a member of the former “Bethel Dining Guild” started by Rev. Allen A. Stanley and under the direction of the late Raphael Mitchell. All in all, Bro Walter, a member of Bethel for over 40 years, is a FAITHFUL, DEDICATED servant most times willing to participate wherever and whenever he is needed! A kindred spirit among family, friends, and neighbors in particular Sis. Velma Branch and Sis. Nellie Davis (making sure of their transportation to and from church).

Walter worked as a healthcare provider for many years. He was very involved in Bethel Church where he sang in the choir and served as an usher. He enjoyed working in the kitchen for any occasion. In his free time, he enjoyed walking all over Troy NY, watching WWE wrestling, sitting outside Kennedy Towers with his friends enjoying good conversation, and playing his daily numbers. Above all else he loved spending time with his family. Walter has worked in many area nursing homes and hospitals as a nurses’ assistant or aide, and is a very compassionate, concerned, and friendly individual.

He was preceded in death by his father, James, and mother, Elsie Scott; brother, D. James (Evelyn) Scott; sister Rose Marie Scott-Williams; brother G. Wayne Scott.

He is survived by his daughter, LaRue Vines; granddaughter, Shameka (Derrick Lewis) Hilts; grandson, Cornelius Vines; three great-grandsons, Ja-Quair Lewis, Juelz Lewis, Nahveir Lewis; sister, I. Jacqueline Scott. Along with several nieces and nephews.

“GREAT IS THY FAITFULNESS, LORD UNTO ME!"
