Walter Frederick Mielnicki, age 78, of Syracuse, passed away on Saturday at Upstate Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Syracuse on July 22, 1941 son of Walter and Myrtle Mielnicki. After graduating from Liverpool High School, where he won awards for his football accomplishments, he served in the US Navy.
Walter owned and operated several construction businesses throughout his life. He also owned a gold and silver company located on Salina St. in Syracuse. He was loved by his family and friends. He will be truly missed.
Walter is survived by his high school sweetheart Gale Smart, his siblings; Matthew (Joyce) Mielnicki, Elizabeth Reed, Edna (Daniel) Porcelli, Kateri Simmons, Charles (Kathleen) Mielnicki, Mark Mielnicki, Martha (Kenneth) Tiss, Rhonda (Richard) Seifert, Luke (Julie) Mielnicki, nieces and nephews including, John Mielnicki, Jr., Katherine Mielnicki, Bobby Baker, Jr., Michael Baker, Lucille Benjamin, great nephews, John Mielnicki, Nathan Mielnicki, great niece, Jessica Mielnicki, who he played a great part in all their lives, and many cousins.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Museums, Justine Poplaski, Stephanie Mielnicki; three brothers, John Mielnicki, David Mielnicki, Stephen Mielnicki.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-3pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 North Main, N. Syracuse, with services at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VA Medical Center or to the Upstate University Hospital.
