Vito F. Maurillo, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at the VA Medical Center of Syracuse, NY. Mr. Maurillo was born and raised on the north side of Syracuse, NY by his parents Joseph and Catherine Maurillo, along with 11 brothers and sisters (all predeceased). After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec 7, 1941, Vito with his friends joined the US Navy where he served in both the Northern Atlantic and Pacific Islands theater of WW II. He was a gunner on the destroyer the USS Sperry from its commission until his honorable discharge on Dec 28, 1945, as a Navy Seaman 1st Class with honors.

Once home again, Vito learned the trade of installing tile and carpet and in 1957 opened his own commercial floor covering business, Straight-Line Tile & Carpet Co, Inc, where he was the President until his retirement in 1986. He was very proud of his company's achievements and installed floor coverings at every major hospital and school in the Central NY area.

Vito married Eva B. (Brown) Maurillo on March 4, 1957, and had three children. Vito spent his life enjoying his family, both immediate and extended, spending most weekends with all at their camp on Skaneateles Lake, where he was an avid horse-shoe and pinochle player. Vito an avid golfer played until the age of 86. He belonged to Tanner Valley Golf Club, IAAC of Syracuse and Carpenter's Local Union 12.

Vito is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eva B. (Brown) Maurillo of Syracuse, NY; son Gene Maurillo of San Francisco, CA; daughters Michele Maurillo of Syracuse and Cynthia (Scott) Garrow of Syracuse, NY. Four grandchildren, Jamie (Mark) Ruzekowicz of Fulton, NY; Jeffrey (Jamie) Larmondra of Concord, NC; Jenta Pokerwinski of Syracuse, NY and Samantha Pokerwinski of Albany, NY. Six great-grand-children and many nieces and nephews. Services will be private for the immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY or the VA Medical Center of Syracuse, NY.
