Virginia R. "Ginny" Cook, 97, of North Syracuse passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning.
Virginia was born in Deferiet, NY to the late William and Leah Hedden. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1940 and worked as a secretary at the St. Regis Paper Co. until she met and married her husband, Robert Cook, on December 1, 1945 and the couple settled in North Syracuse.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1994; daughter, Nancy DeRienzo in 1975; son, Daniel Cook in 2011; and great-grandson, Anthony DeRienzo in 2010.
She is survived by her care-giver son and daughter-in-law, James and Joan Cook; one granddaughter, Cheryl Cook; 3 grandsons, Jeffrey DeRienzo, Mark (Patricia) DeRienzo and Michael Cook and seven great-grandchildren.
Virginia enjoyed bowling, lunch with friends, and knitting while listening to music of the Big Band Era. She was a member of Anna Circle at church and TOPS, and always looked forward to summers at the cottage. Ginny was a cat person and always loved having a purring companion at home or the cottage.
The family wishes to thank all their friends here in North Syracuse and the summer cottage at Knobby Knoll on Lake Ontario near Sackets Harbor for their constant loving care and friendship.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
