Virginia Siany Burness, 84, formerly of Ithaca, NY, passed away at Iroquois Skilled Nursing Facility in Jamesville, NY, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020, due to Coronavirus.
Virginia, "Ginny", was born in Ithaca, NY, on June 14, 1936 to Raymond and Frances Siany. As a young girl, she enjoyed the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region; spending quality time with family and friends at her Uncle's concession stand at Taughannock Falls State Park. She was a 1950 graduate of Immaculate Conception School, a 1954 graduate of Ithaca High School, and attended Keuka College, graduating in 1957.
On July 27, 1957, she married Charles S. Burness at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ithaca. During the early years of her marriage, she entered the workforce, then became a full-time homemaker while raising her three sons. Virginia later returned to work, employed by Cornell University for seventeen years, retiring in 1995. She was a communicant of Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, and a former member of the Country Club of Ithaca. She was an enthusiastic Cornell sports booster, attending many games at Schoellkopf Stadium. An avid traveler, she enjoyed adventures and social outings. Virginia was blessed with several lifelong friends, many of whom celebrated milestone events throughout her life. Spending time with family brought her tremendous joy, as did playing the piano. She was an ardent fan of popular music and always dreamed of being a professional singer.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children. She is survived by James (Susan) Burness, of Dublin, OH, Jeffrey (Constance) Burness, of Ithaca, NY, Thomas (Dawn) Burness, of Manlius, NY, granddaughters, Megan, Kylie, Mackenzie and Justine, great-granddaughter Claire, Sister-in-law Elizabeth Evans of Manlius, and her close cousin, Lawrence Siany, of Ithaca. In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1982.
In accordance with Virginia's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
