Veronica G. Storie
December 8, 2014

Veronica G. Storie, 90, of Liverpool, passed away on Monday. Born in Colosse, NY, daughter of Corling L. Stevens and Genevive Mosher. She was the 8th child of 16 and was the sole survivor of the 16 children. She married Robert C. Storie on June 29, 1942. Veronica graduated from Antwerp High School where she met her husband, Robert. In 1944, Veronica sent a letter to Robert who was serving in the military, telling him of her intention to join the Army Air Corps. Robert's response came too late and she was sworn in and served the duration of the war, coming home a few months after her husband's return. She moved to Antwerp, NY to live with her sister as a teen in high school, after high school she moved to the Syracuse area and finally settled in Liverpool, NY after building a house in the early fifties. Veronica was active in the church serving as a lector, religious Ed. Educator and Eucharistic Minister at St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale, NY. She was also involved in the Altar Rosary. She spent much of her time visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bingo and penny (or candy) ante poker. She graduated with a degree in Theology from Maria Regina College. She loved learning and continued to take classes offered to seniors, whatever was offered for free. Most of all, Veronica was a product of the depression. She saved everything. When she went out for breakfast or lunch she took jellies, creamer, sugar and ketchup and every last crumb of leftovers from the restaurants where she always used her coupon book. Veronica saved money everywhere she could but was always generous to her children and grandchildren when they were in need.

Veronica was predeceased by her husband, Robert Clark Storie on October 4, 1990; daughter, Bonnie Ann Storie in 1947; siblings, Marguerite Tanner, Mary Stevens, Raymond Stevens, Martha McKee, James Stevens, Robert Stevens, Betty Stevens, Marion Flippin, John Stevens, Donald Stevens, Richard Stevens, Frances Stevens, Ronald Stevens, Corling Stevens and Jerry Stevens.

Veronica is survived by 7 children, Catherine (Thomas) Maugeri, Robert M. (Christine) Storie, Gregory (Dolores) Storie, Mary (Timothy) Castle, Joseph Storie, Charles (Maureen) Storie and Christopher (Carla) Storie; 16 grandchildren, Evan, Elyse, Jeff, Amy, Matthew, Meghan, Marguarite, Benjamin, Sarah, Joshua, Tina, Nicole, Logan, Robert, Christopher and Michael; 9 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Alexandra, Samantha, Martin, Payton, Aryanna, Aidan, Emma and Isaac; 5 sister-in-laws, Joan Stevens, Shirley Stevens, Retha Stevens, Gloria Stevens and Connie Stevens and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday 4-8PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday 10AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Margaret's School Library, 201 Roxboro Road, Mattydale, NY 13211.
