Thomas J. Fitzmaurice of North Syracuse passed away on February 2nd, 2021.
Tom was born in Syracuse on December 28th, 1943, to John and Ann Fitzmaurice.
He attended North Syracuse High School, and then enlisted in the United States Army. Serving his country was an honor and privilege to him. After leaving the Army, he worked as a chemist at crucible steel, until he retired.
After his retirement, his days were devoted to raising his youngest daughter Kristen. He never missed a single dance recital or girl scout meeting. He was loving and compassionate, opening his home to many foster children throughout the years. He was an active member in local AA groups, advocating and supporting others in their journey to sobriety. He was very proud to have been sober for 48 years. He was known for his quirky sense of humor, his eye for beauty, his honesty, and his big heart.
Tom will be fondly remembered as a family photographer. Not a moment went by without the click of his camera. He passionately documented lifes ups and downs, teaching us to find beauty in the moment. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren for rides in his mustang, long walks at Onondaga Lake Park with his brother, talking sports with his son, and keeping up with his friends over coffee. His jovial spirit and endless stories of the good old days will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his brother Jack Fitzmaurice, his four children, Kim Braswell (Dwayne Braswell), Kelly O'Hara (Scott O'Hara), Thomas Fitzmaurice, and Kristen Baughan (Aaron Baughan), and grandchildren, Kasey O'Hara, Kassie O'Hara, Jacob Fitzmaurice, Kelsey Baughan, Kinsley Baughan, Korinne Baughan, and Kiera Baughan.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 4-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY 13212. Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021, 10am at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Drive, Syracuse, NY 13219. Final committal service will be at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse, NY.
