Thomas E. Carney, 89, of East Syracuse died Tuesday at Community General Hospital. Tom was a graduate of Central High where in addition to scholastics he excelled as an athlete. He was drafted by the New York Yankees
organization in 1941. He was a US Army Air Force veteran who served in Europe. He was a pipe fitter at Carrier Corp. and after retiring, volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Pat (Joseph) Mehlek; four grandsons, Patrick, Shawn (Stacy), Joseph (Marijean) and Brian (Kimberly) Mehlek and nine great- grand- children.
Services will be at St. Matthew's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Friday.
Burial will Be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. There will be no calling hours.
