Thomas Jeremiah Black I, more colloquially known as Tom, passed away on Thursday, August 8th.
Born to the late Jeremiah & Vivian Black on November 8, 1952 in Watertown, N.Y., Tom was salutatorian of the Clayton High School class of 1970. After a notorious stint at the University of Notre Dame, he married his high school sweetheart, Terry Letarte and settled in the Syracuse area.
Well-known in the Syracuse medical community, Tom spent nearly 40 years running various laboratories and carrying the honorary title: "Kind of like a Doctor". He was a lover of Dr. Pepper, Labatt Blue, Quick Draw and a solid nickname. Tom could often be found at his children's sporting events or cheering for the Syracuse (Sky) Chiefs/Mets, a pastime he shared with his second wife, Sharon.
Tom was predeceased by his first wife, Terry; two brothers, Dan and Herman. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Danielle (Derek) Newton and Meghan (Brian) McManus; Son, T.J. (Cynthia); Step-son, Edward Bakeman; Siblings, Mary (Pete) Black-Orvis, Maggie (Bill) Bartlett and Duke (Lisa).
Calling hours will take place on Monday, August 12th, 4-7 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, North Syracuse. Burial will be private.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Coleman's Authentic Irish Pub on Tuesday, August 13th from 12-4 PM.
