Theresa E. McGowan, 89, of Dewitt, NY passed away on December 31, 2020. Born on June 20, 1931 in Massena, NY to parents, John and Salome Brownell. Theresa graduated High School June of 1949 and went on to graduate from A. Barton Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing in Ogdensburg, NY. In 1981, Theresa completed her bachelor's degree at State University of Utica, NY. She married Norman McGowan and later divorced.
Surviving her are four children, Debra (James) Newton of Chittenango, NY, John (Joann) McGowan of Chittenango, NY, Kenneth (Charlotte) McGowan of Wevertown, NY and Matthew McGowan of Fayetteville, NY; grandchildren, Brett, Ben, David, Devin and Shane McGowan; great-grandchildren, Luke, Jacob, Levi, Aiden, Joslyn and Virginia McGowan; siblings, Helen Harper, Elizabeth Shea, Cynthia Cooper and Robert Brownell.
For over 30 years, Theresa was a Registered Nurse working at Oneida City Hospital, Head Nurse at Rome Developmental Center and later Syracuse Developmental. When her children were young, she was active in Girl Scouts and participated in their hobbies. She enjoyed downhill skiing for a large part of her life and after retirement, Theresa traveled to Europe and surrounding areas. She later traveled to Florida by boat and enjoyed the boating life.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be interred at North Syracuse Cemetery.
