Taras "Max" Slobodian

Taras "Max" Slobodian, born on March 15, 1922, passed away on Saturday at Loretto.
Max attended Kernan grammar school and Utica Free Academy in Utica, New York and took some courses at Utica College. His first job was as a lens grinder at American Optical Co., followed by over three years in the United States Army, where he served in Alaska for two and a half years.
During his working career, Max enjoyed his work for GE as an editor the most. He also was self-employed as a window cleaner, and worked for the City of Utica. He spent his last years living in assisted living facilities in the Syracuse area.
Max was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Anna Slobodian, sisters Olga, Leona Tanner and Natalie Koziarz, and brothers Joseph and Nicholas. His brother Raymond Bowden, of Emmett, Idaho, survives. He left nieces and nephews in New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Colorado, Idaho and New Mexico. His sense of humor and story-telling will be missed.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-7pm at New Comer Funeral, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse with a service to follow.
