Steven Russell Smith

Steven Russell Smith, 56, of Liverpool passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at home on September 7, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Buffalo, April 10th 1953, he graduated from Kenmore West High School and the University of Buffalo. He proudly received the Franklin Award for Distinguished Service in Transportation from Syracuse University. Steve was involved in many community activities including Optimist Basketball and Boy Scouts. Steve's 45 years of dedication to Scouting earned him the Scoutmaster Award of Merit. Steve's leadership and mentoring guided many scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout. Family, friends and scouts of Troop 203 Liverpool will fondly remember Steve's enthusiasm for air shows, bonfires fireworks, and
his positive attitude. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Susan Bornholdt Smith; sons, Christopher and Brian Smith; parents, Eugene and Ann Smith; cousins Sandy (Keith and Michael) and Linda (Edward). He is predeceased by his cousin Gary Smith.
Friends and family will celebrate his life at 11:00 Saturday September 19th at St John's Church, 8290 Soule Road, Liverpool. Friends may visit with the family immediately prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Hospice of CNY, Boy Scout troop 203 of Liverpool, NY.
