Sherwood F. Peters Jr, gentlemen farmer, earth mover, and decorated tractor trailer driver born 12/24/36 in Bethel, NY died Friday Feb 3rd in his Spafford "Home on the Hill".
He was a wonderful critic of his beloved family, wife Hattie (Cook), daughters; Cynthia deceased (Lance Henderson) and Shari (Peter) Henderson. Much loved were his precious grandchildren; Jeremy (Suzanne) Henderson, Jenifer (Benjamin) Reed, Jonathon, Jordan Henderson and four great grandsons all of which could do no wrong.
Whether by loaning/borrowing equipment, plowing feet to just a dusting of snow (along with stone, earth and pavement) or even sharing tobacco products, he made his mark on most longtime residents in the area.
Pete only attended school for eight years yet managed his own small construction business for just over five years leaving septic systems, ponds and dug foundations to accrue interest waiting for payment due.
Most known was he as a tractor-trailer driver. He worked for Nightingale Mills, Chuck Baker and would eventually go to P&C Food Markets Inc. and earn a pension. Pete retired in his early 60's to spend most of his time around his barn and fields while taking care of various horses and cattle. He raised great beef! In his latter days you would find him driving his costly Massey slowly around his property usually early enough to wake the neighbors or just in time to scare the deer from the hunters sight. Some folk wonder why he didn't just stay in farming like his family Dennis Peters, Florence Leach, Bruce Peters and Elmer Peters (the latter three passing before him). But it was his vision as well as his sister Virginia Spaulding to break from the fold and make another path through life.
1pm Sunday Feb 19th at their home church in Borodino will be a time for calling.
A memorial service will begin at 2pm with Sherwood's favorite after church event following -coffee hour with plenty of desserts.
