Sherry A. Carney, 70, of Bridgeport passed away on Tuesday, May 17th surrounded by her loving husband, son and her friend, Lisa Hazard.
Sherry was born in Ogdensburg, NY on March 21, 1952 to Beverly Breckenridge (Pierce) and Walter Breckenridge. Sherry attended Gouverneur
Junior and Senior High School, and moved to Syracuse and graduated from Henninger High School in 1970.
Sherry married her longtime friend, Thomas Carney July 4, 1978. They eloped to Vegas and were married in Cupid's Chapel. Sherry and Tom would have been married 44 years in July. Sherry chose to be a stay at home mother. Her love for her son, Michael was made of deep devotion, sacrifice and endless love. Michael was her whole world. Sherry had a heart of gold and cared for everyone. When her step father, Albert Prashaw and her mother, Beverly were unable to care for themselves, Sherry moved them in with her and Tom and Sherry took care of them. Sherry babysat for several families in the neighborhood throughout the years. She was always willing to help those around her.
Sherry loved to travel, her favorite place to travel to was Saint Martin in the Caribbean. She loved to garden, read books and cook. She made the best Macaroni and cheese, pork roast and spaghetti and meatballs. She loved animals, but most of all loved her son, Michael's dog, Ruby. Michael brought Ruby to Sherry everyday to be watched while he was at work .
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Carney; son, Michael Carney; brothers, Terry (Carol) Breckenridge, Wayne Breckenridge; along with, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 27th from 4-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse with services at 6pm.
