Samuel Paris, MD, passed away after a long illness surrounded by family and friends.

Samuel was born in Syracuse, NY on December 27, 1937. He is predeceased by his parents Gaetano and Giacomina Paris, and his brother, Orazio (Georgianna) Paris.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Sharp-Paris.

Sam is also survived by his children Tom Paris, Annemarie (Todd) Paris, Francine Paris, Maria Paris, Samantha (Warren) Estes, Adam (Jennifer) Sharp, Cynthia Bullock and Nick Paris; Grandchildren Gianni & Dante Martino, George, Isabella and Samuel Sharp and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Sam attended Eastwood High School from 1953 to 1955. He received his BS degree in Biology from LeMoyne College, 1959, his MS degree at Syracuse University in Microbiology, 1961, and went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine at the University of California, 1967.

Sam did his Chief Residency at St. Joseph's Hospital Family Practice from 1968 – 1970 in Syracuse, New York. He was affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital for the next 50 years.

During his lifetime, Sam was a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Utah, and was given a citation for Meritorious Service.

Sam was also a clinical professor and faculty member with the Department of Family Medicine at State of NY Health and Science Center, since 1973, where he mentored many medical students who interned with him.

Over the years, Sam held several academic appointments, past hospital staff appointments and wrote numerous publications and articles.

Sam received many awards during his lifetime, listed are a few.

1. Eagle Scout, 1952
2. World Boxing Award presented by Mohammed Ali, 1977
3. Family Doctor of the Year, New York State, 1996
4. LeMoyne College Athletic Hall of Fame, Spring 2000
5. Completed over 45 Boston Marathons and over 400 marathons in his lifetime, including ultra-marathons.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funeral, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY 13212 on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 4-7pm. A celebration of Sam's life will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, North Syracuse on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.

I would like to personally, on behalf of Sam and myself, give a heartfelt thank you for their love, compassion and assistance during this time to Anthony Paris, Esq., dear friends, Jean Peterson, Melony Karlick and Ricki Ricardo, Mark Rioux, Dr. Emmalee Kennedy and all the staff on 6B at The Veterans Hospital, Syracuse.
