Ruth Burns Newell, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes September 28, 2015. She was 98.
She is survived by a son, Jim Burns of New York City, a daughter, Joanne Lane, of Liverpool, a grandson, John Kinsella, his wife Joanne, and a great grandson, Jack, of Webster, New York, and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Fair Haven, New York, she attended Syracuse University and was employed by the Syracuse City School District for 35 years, first as an elementary school secretary, and later as an administrative assistant to the District's Director of Physical Education. While there, for several years she helped coordinate a community outreach program with the Syracuse Police Department.
An active member of Lafayette Avenue Methodist Church for many years, she was also an alumnae advisor to Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Syracuse University.
She had an enduring faith, optimism, and love for life. With her magnetic smile, Ruth made friends wherever her journey over her long and eventful life took her. Her shining spirit will live on in us.
A memorial service will be held at United Church of Christ at Bayberry, 215 Blackberry Road, Liverpool,NY 13090, Saturday, October 3, at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Association of CNY, Liverpool, NY.
