Russell G. Post, 81, of Cicero, passed away at home Sunday, May 17, 2009 from an extended illness. Born in Syracuse on February 5, 1928, he lived throughout the Syracuse area and grew up in Lowville, NY. At the age of 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and was drafted in the US Army. Command Sergeant Major Post served for 21 years which included tours in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring, he & his family moved to Camden, NY where they owned and operated a John Deere dealership. A jack of all trades, Russ enjoyed many careers which included long-haul trucking, security, tree farming, gardening, sales and business partnerships. Although he retired in the 1990's, Russ remained active with many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, bowling, antiquing, and gardening.
He and Madelyn moved to Cicero in 1997 and maintained homes there and in Florida. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and NRA. Russell was an avid outdoorsman; his greatest passion was any kind of hunting and fishing. His home away from home was in the Adirondacks at his camp, Russ-Lyn Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Madelyn, of 54 years, two sons, Stephen (Lani) Post, David Post, and daughter, Lynda (Dan) Lang. He has three granddaughters, Alison, Lindsey, & Riley, in which he took great delight. He has one sister, Marilyn (Francis) Lee and was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Post.
Services will be held on Thursday, 6 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, North Syracuse. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 3-6 PM at the funeral home, before services.
