Rose Esposito, 94, passed away late Sunday afternoon at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, where she resided since last year after developing some health difficulties. She was a wonderful mother to us, a woman who cared for us above all things and lived this dedication everyday. We were truly blessed to have her as our mother. She was our heart and soul and will be dearly missed.

Rose was born in Sicily and came here at the age of 10. The memory of seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time was something that burned brightly in her all of her life. She kept a replica on her mantle, which was one of her fondest possessions, as she was so proud to be an American. She believed in the value of hard work and, with her family having settled in Chicago, took a job at an aircraft plant during WWII. After the war, she worked at Illinois Bell as a telephone operator, when she met her future husband, Anthony, who was on leave, having just returned stateside from the war in the Pacific. Within weeks, they married and moved back east to Syracuse, Anthony's family home.

With Anthony passing in 2009, they enjoyed 62 loving and devoted years together. Rose is survived by her children: Daniel, Thomas (Marcia) and Andrew (Laura); son-in-law, Donald Martell; grandchildren, Erick, Lynnie, Dana, and Victor; great-granddaughter, Ava; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy in 2010. All of us, at this time, would like to warmly thank the Iroquois Nursing Home and all of its gracious and caring staff for all they did to help her and our family.

A mass will be held on Thursday at 10AM at All Saints Church, 112 Lancaster Place, Syracuse. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt.
