Roberta O'Connor

January 19, 1940 — February 12, 2021

Roberta F. (Whitmarsh) O'Connor, age 81, of Boston, MA passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at her home in N. Syracuse surrounded by the local members of her family. Predeceased by her brother Michael and adored husband of 31 years, Thomas M. O'Connor. Roberta is survived by her loving children, Tom (Maureen), Bill, Maureen (Jon) and Michael (Kelly), devoted grandchildren Billy, Bob (Melinda), Sinead, Mairead, Brenna, Sean, Aileen, and great grandchild Maggie.

Roberta graduated from South Boston High School in 1957 and worked for several years as a data entry clerk at Blue Cross Blue Shield. She married the love of her life Tom on November 7, 1964 and spent the rest of her life devoted to the support of her husband and family. She left the comfortable confines of her beloved extended O'Connor family in Savin Hill and moved with her husband and children to North Syracuse, NY in 1976. Once in North Syracuse, she became the center of a tightknit circle of friends while raising her four children.

A lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and avid reader, Roberta developed a love for card playing and was sustained by a close community at weekly games. The great joy of her later life was a reconnection with her Lisowski family in the Boston and Pennsylvania region. Their annual family reunions became a highpoint of her year.

A caring mother, devoted family member, and passionate friend, Roberta will be missed. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made out to Maureen O'Connor, and directed to the New Comer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, Syracuse, NY 13212, where they will be collected, forwarded and used to increase opportunities of adapted learning and experiences for her treasured granddaughter.

In light of current conditions, the family will not hold visiting hours at this time. A celebration of Roberta's life will occur over the summer as soon as is safe.
