Roberta "Bobbie" Burkey, 78, of Liverpool, peacefully gave up her spirit, surrounded by family, as the snow began to fall like angel's wings, on Wednesday. In her younger years she was an accomplished roller skater, earning many awards, accolades, and medals. She loved playing bingo, bunko, and various other games with her family. She was an avid puzzler, assembling countless jigsaw puzzles in her spare time.
She retired in 1998 from a career in nursing that began at St. Mary's Hospital and continued on to St. Joseph's Hospital, spanning over 50 years of loving care.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse H. Burkey; four sons, Richard (Leanne) Burkey of Tennessee, David Burkey of Wilson, NY, and Dale (Melissa) Burkey and Mark (Kristina) Burkey of Liverpool, NY; three daughters, Sally Simmons of Syracuse, NY, Cynthia Sommers of Liverpool, NY, and Susan (Frank) Nania of Iowa; two sisters, Betty (Sam) Fatzick, and Evelyn Peterson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Marie Hurst.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday from 12 to 3 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, with a service to follow.
