Robert Glenn Wiseman, 97, of Clay, NY, passed away peacefully December 15, 2024. Born on October 11, 1927 in Altoona, PA, he lived through the depression era during his childhood and then enlisted in the United States Navy on his 17th birthday. He trained on a Naval aircraft carrier as a radioman and gunner. Just prior to seeing action, the war ended. He was always very proud to have been the youngest in his unit to obtain a promotion to Second Class Petty Officer. Glenn as he was known, took advantage of a GI bill after his discharge and went on obtain his Bachelors Degree at Otterbein University in Ohio. He had considered the idea of becoming a history teacher, but opted to take a job in underwriting at Nationwide Insurance. Here he spent his entire career as he moved through the ranks in several managerial positions and finished his career in a dual role as Regional Underwriting Manager and Company Comptroller in Syracuse.

Glenn met his beloved wife Ruthanna in Altoona and they enjoyed 62 happy years together prior to her passing in 2013. Together they have three surviving children, Susanne (Thomas) Talcott of Sunbury OH; Donald and Eric Wiseman of Clay NY; three grandchildren, Christopher Wiseman, Michael (Misty) Talcott and Andrew (Kate) Talcott; as well as four great grandchildren, Warren, Oliver, Penelope and Beckett Talcott. He also has several surviving cousins Dick Charlesworth, Dave Charlesworth and Nancy Kutz; nephew Tim Wiseman and niece Jennifer Wiseman. 

Glenn enjoyed travel during his service time, both career and leisure travel with his family which took him many places. He had many fond memories including family trips to the NY Worlds Fair and Disney. In leisure time, Glenn enjoyed social events, golf, bowling and playing cards. He often boasted that he was able to enjoy retirement for as long as he worked both around 34 years. 

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 4-6PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. A burial service will be held at Pine Plains Cemetery on Monday, December 23, 2024 for anyone wishing to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
