Robert L. Townsend

Robert L. "Bob" Townsend, 94, of Central Square, passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2023 with his daughter, JoAnn, by his side. Robert was born in Watertown, NY on May 24, 1929, son of the late Charles and Aleita Townsend. Bob retired from General Electric after many years. He served in the US Army, the Air Force, then the Air Force Reserves for a total of 17 years. After retirement he was a member of the American Legion and acted as President of the CNY Chapter National Railway Historical Society, restoring the Central Square Train Station.

He was predeceased by his wife Judy Townsend, in 2022 and his step-daughter, Dawn LaPointe.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Laurie (Walter) Stewart and JoAnn Townsend, son, James (Sue) Townsend, stepchildren; Suzette Decker, Melanie Matteson, Terry Farnsworth & Wendy Hanrahan, along with ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A visitation will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals,705 N. Main St. N. Syracuse on Thursday from 11am-1pm with services at 1pm.
