Robert P. "Coach" Borke, 83, of Mattydale, passed away Wednesday at Birchwood Health Care Center. Born in Syracuse, he retired from Niagara Mohawk as a supervisor with 43 years of service and belonged to the Syracuse Chapter UEA as a player coach he lead several city teams to championships in basketball and softball. He was a graduate of Assumption Academy, Captain of the Debate team, President of the Drama Club and enjoyed writing poetry. He was a Communicant of Assumption Church as well as a Eucharistic Minister and a Knight of the Cross. Robert was a Army veteran of WWII. He predeceased by his wife, Theresa; son, Roger Francis and daughter, Mary Bernadette.
He is survived by his sons, Robert F. and Joseph P.; five grandchildren, Brandon Cara, Jason, Kristin, Kerriann; and a nephew, David.
Services will be held on Monday at 9 AM in Assumption Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Sunday from 1-3 PM at New Comer Family Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse.
