Robert J. "Bob" Oliver, 79, of Liverpool, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Van Duyn Nursing Home in Syracuse.
Robert was born on March 25, 1940, the son of the late Robert and Veronica Oliver.
He was a graduate of Nottingham High School and The Maxwell School at Syracuse University. While at Syracuse University, he joined the staff of WAER Radio Station and, after graduation, worked at a few other radio stations in the area.
From 1960-1975 he was a member of the Watkins Glen International racetrack broadcasting crew. In 1967 he helped start Mack Studios with his good friend "Chuck" Maciulewicz, and, in 1975, he joined Cultural Resources Council and helped open the Civic Center.
He was last employed at the OnCenter in Syracuse, facilitating a multitude of cultural enriching events at the OnCenter, War Memorial and Civic Center, retiring in 2005.
Bob was a local history buff and a descendant of Asa Danforth, a Syracuse pioneer. After retiring, Bob continued to be active in the Syracuse Cinephile Society where he served as past president. Bob was an avid SU sports fan.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Edith of 51 years; sons, Joseph (Cristina) Oliver and Thomas (Jody) Oliver; granddaughter, Kirsten Oliver; along with several cousins and in-laws.
Graveside services will be held on August 1st, 2020 at 11 AM in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
