Robert J. Hughes has gone on to his Lord, Jesus Christ, who he served so faithfully for so many years.
Bob was born on May 5, 1930 in Stratford, Wisconsin, a small farming community. His parents were Herbert and Otelia Hughes. He had two sisters and three brothers.
After serving his country during the Korean War, Bob was honorably discharged in New York State. He decided to settle there and he married Wilhelmina Morgan. He never had children of his own, but he was a good father to his step children.
Bob was never one for many words but his actions spoke volumes. If someone needed help he was at the head of the line for them. His close companion for the last seven years, Charlotte Snyder, was a strong presence in his life and they helped at many church sponsored functions including the food pantry which helped many people. He was recognized by the church with a prestigious award.
He will be missed by all who really knew him as well as by all he helped over his 90 years with us. We should all say a silent prayer for him. Just be sure you aim it at the heavens because that's where he will be waiting for us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 29th at 3pm
At the St. Francis Community Center in Bridgeport.
