Robert H. Augat
January 16, 2015
Robert H. Augat passed away on January 16, 2015 at the age of 93 years. Bob was an extraordinary individual who remained cheerful, optimistic and unrestricted in his activities after losing his sight to macular degeneration for the last two decades of his life. He continued to golf, bowl, fish, play cards, refinish antiques and compete in the NY Senior Games despite his vision loss and then won multiple gold medals in the Senior Olympics. He inspired many others suffering from macular degeneration-related vision loss. He was born in 1921 in Bridgeport, CT, the son of August and Ann Augat, and grew up in Milford CT. He was a track star at Milford Highschool and his CT state discus record stood for several decades. Bob served in active duty as a navigator for the US Air Force. He graduated from Syracuse University and was an engineer with R.P. Kennedy Co. then O.R. Lawrence Co. He and his wife, Jeanne were fixtures in the NY antiques community. Bob is predeceased by his wife, Jeanne and his sister, Sherry.
He is outlived by his three children, Thomas (a chiropractic doctor in Brunswick, Maine), Mike (an international fishing guide in East Aurora, NY), and Laura (living in Bath, Maine).
