Robert A. Gunnip Sr., 70, of North Syracuse went to be with the Lord on Sunday. He graduated from St. Lucy's Academy where he lettered in Basketball, Baseball and Football. He was an Empire State Senior Games Shotput medalist. He retired in 1997 after more than 35 years with the Onondaga County Dept. of Water Environment Protection. He was a veteran of the US Airforce. Robert is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Barbara K. Gunnip in July, 2006; sister, Virginia Gunnip; brothers, Richard, George, Charles and William Gunnip.
He is survived by 7 Children; Cheryl (Bill) Stryker, Bob (Mary), Andrew (Kim), Joe, William, Della (Paul) Weston, Casey (Kim); 47 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Francis and Gerald Gunnip, John Horrigan; sisters, Mary Fredette, Dorothy Perry and Barbara McDermott.
Services will be Wednesday, 11AM at New Comer Family Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the spring at the Cato Union Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with his family on Tuesday from 4-7 PM, at the funeral home.
