Robert C. Gennuso

December 5, 1928 — February 11, 2020

Robert C. Gennuso, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 11, 2020 and is awaiting the Lord Jesus Christ's promised return from Heaven.

Robert (Bob) was born in Buffalo, NY in 1928 to a large and loving Italian family. He met the love of his life, Delphine, when she and her two sisters moved next door. Upon graduation from high school, Bob enlisted in the Army with a buddy of his, and was assigned to the US Occupation of Japan at the end of World War II.

Bob always loved to draw and paint, so he attended Albright Art School in Buffalo with the help of the GI Bill. After graduation from art school, he worked at Birge Wallpaper designing wallpaper.

Later, Bob was thrilled to land a job at General Electric Company in advertising and marketing. GE transferred Bob and his family all over the country - to Kentucky, Oklahoma, Central New York, and then to the Suffolk, Virginia area. He always relished the adventure of moving to a new location and meeting new people.

Bob loved hanging out with family and friends, being outdoors, taking his family to the beach, camping, doing crossword puzzles (in ink!), and playing the piano. He enjoyed every minute of life - especially if anything chocolate was involved.

Upon retirement from GE after 30 years, Bob began to devote most of his time to his art and joined several art groups in the Hampton/Virginia Beach area. He won many local awards for his paintings, including Best of Show, and immensely enjoyed doing portraits of friends and family.

In 2012 Bob moved back to Central New York to be closer to family. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Bob was noted for being kind and generous. His engaging smile, positive attitude and quick sense of humor endeared him to many. He will be greatly missed.

Bob is predeceased by his parents Frank and Sarah, his wife of 43 years Delphine, his adopted daughter Chai (Lori) and seven of his siblings: Victor, Marion, Silvia, Lucy, Richard, Carol and Joe.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mary Jo and Jack Hamlin, his adopted daughter Shannon, his foster daughter Renee, his sister Elaine, his grandchildren Tony, Sarah Del, Joshua, Mariah Del, and Eco, plus several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18th from 5-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services to follow at 7pm.
