Robert E. Townsend

Robert E. Townsend, 86, of Central Square, passed away Wednesday at Loretto Nursing Home. He was born in Fayetteville, NY, on February 11, 1926. He was predeceased by his parents, Einer and Irene Andersen.
He worked at Oneida Craft Mfg., established by his father, Einer and RJ Denton where he was a self made engineering draftsman. He retired from RJ Denton in 1991. Robert was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 1468. He was an avid bowler at the Southside Recreations with Marty Pirano. He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara on August 13, 2011 and sister, Norma Carey.
He is survived by five children, Dorothy (Gary Middleton) Cooper, Robert (Teri Robbins) Townsend Jr., Richard (Bonnie) Townsend, Deborah (Keith) Patterson and Edward (Donna) Townsend; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and great great grandchild; three sisters, Jeanne Boyle, Marylou VanDenburg and Joanne Coughlin; one brother, John Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 1-4PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Services will follow at 4 PM. Burial services will be at Onondaga Valley Cemetery on Wednesday at 2PM.
