Robert “Bob” Theodore Abbott, 76, of Solvay, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Sunnyside Care Center. Robert was born in Syracuse, NY on March 12,1948, the son of Theodore and Gladys Abbott.
He graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1967. After high school he joined the United States Coast Guard where he spent 4 years on active duty and 2 in the reserves. Serving his country for 6 years was one of his greatest honors, he was extremely proud to be a veteran.
Bob was a jack of all trades and always willing to lend a helping hand. During the summer you could find him around his campfire at Brennan’s Beach. He was the life of the party; his social personality and infectious laugh will be greatly missed. He loved the NY Giants, Syracuse basketball, and anything to do with the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and golfing were some of his favorite past times. What he loved most of all was his family and being a “Poppy”.
He is survived by his “Sweetie”, Debbie; his 4 children Tim (Chris), Lindsey (Zach), Rebecca, and Bobby (Sofia); 7 grandchildren Alana, Lincoln, Logan, Landon, Nathan, Timmy, & Sammy; brother and best friend Alan (Debbie); and many friends and family who loved him dearly.
He is predeceased by both his parents.
Per his request there will be no calling hours or services.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held in honor of his memory, where family and friends will gather to pay tribute to a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many. This will take place on Saturday, May 11th from 2-6pm at Lamont Tavern in Solvay, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Sunnyside Care Center who loved and took care of Bob for the past 2 years.
