Rita A. Fitzsimmons, 84, of The Hearth at Greenpoint, Liverpool, NY, passed away Thursday, surrounded by family.
Rita graduated from Fulton High School. She married the love of her life, Jack. They were married for 63 years. He preceded her in death August 1, 2013.
After moving from Fulton, Jack and Rita lived in Baldwinsville, NY, Auburn, NY and Lockport, NY and New Hartford, NY. When Jack retired, they moved to Florida. They enjoyed boating, traveling around the world and taking cruises. She was very social, planning parties, playing cards and enjoying her friends. Rita will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, always putting her family first.
Survivors include her children, Cheryl (Bob) Andree of Ithaca, NY, John J. Fitzsimmons Jr. of Clay, NY, Michael (Carol) Fitzsimmons of New Hartford, NY and Mary (Nikola) Radonich of Westwood, MA; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Travis, Jacqueline (Max), Michael (Gina, her son Troy and another one on the way), Brian, Peter, and Thomas, Travis (Sarah); great-grandchild Brandon, Justin; and Rita's sisters Ellen Sheeley and Suzanne Garofalo and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 PM on Monday at Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter's Church, 301 Ash Street, Syracuse, NY 13208. A private Burial will be at the Onondaga County Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Lung Association.
