Richard W. Pfohl

Richard W. Pfohl, 67, of Sylvan Beach, passed away on Sunday at Upstate Hospital, with family by his side. He was born in Syracuse and grew up in the Valley section of Syracuse. He attended Central Tech and served in the US Marine Corps. from 1966-68, stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. Dick held various Data Processing (Information Technology) positions through the years at Bristol Laboratories, Pneumo Services Corp., Carrier Corp. and Niagara Mohawk. While enjoying corporate life, he was motivated to be his own boss and was an astute businessman who successfully owned many establishments in Central NY. The Clay Hotel, Pfohl's Phoenix Tavern, Hotel Oneida, with Pfohl's Beachouse as his crowning jewel. Dick was a big advocate in supporting live entertainment for over 30 years to the CNY area. Some of the great entertainment to take the stage at Pfohl's Beachouse including Benny Mardones, Tryx, Under the Gun, Todd Hobin, Joe Whiting Band, Mr. Ed, NY Flyers, Alligators, Target, Kane, Barons of Boogie, Saddletramp, Beadle Brothers, United Booty Foundation, 805, Alec Star, The Birds, Orleans, Foghat, Square Pegs, Gridley Page & DJ Bill T. and the list goes on and on. He will be greatly missed by the entertainment industry.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert A. and Shirley G. Pfohl and brother, Thomas J.
He leaves behind his loving companion of 18 years, Karen Norton, son Richard M. (Luz) Pfohl, Tolland, CT, brothers: Robert (Roseanne) Pfohl, John Pfohl, both of Syracuse, sister-in-law, Christine Carbone, grandchildren: Dylan Keller, Caleb, Aspen, Nathan, Galilee & Jacob Pfohl, nieces, Nolita Pfohl, Karen (Jim) Hart, Kathy (John) Keys, nephews, Matthew & Steve Pfohl.
While Dick mostly enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Dylan and wintering in Florida, he was an avid Yankee Fan, known for his blonde hair, strong political views and his absolute over the top sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. To all who remain, he bids farewell. Dick always did it his way and thankfully had a great ride. We love ya Dick!
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse. Services will be held on Friday 12noon at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Following services there will be a celebration of Dick's Life at Pfohl's Beachouse, Sylvan Beach.
