Surrounded by loving family, Richard "Dick" Trudeau of DeWitt passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018. Dick was born in Syracuse, NY on September 11, 1929 to the late George and Amelia Trudeau.
Dick retired from Niagara Mohawk after a 44 year career. He was a former member of the National Guard and was very active in square dancing organizations. He loved the outdoors and camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his close friend, Loretta. He was especially fond of his dog, Tessa, whom he shared with the residents of the Oaks.
Dick was always the first to volunteer to help those in need. He was a member of a number of local volunteer organizations, including the Red Cross Action Disaster Team. He traveled to sites throughout the United States following natural disasters providing assistance to those affected. The Red Cross recognized him at the "Real Heroes Breakfast" in 2002 for his donation of 30 gallons of blood. Dick was also recognized with the "Bud Haylor Award," which named him " the community's most caring volunteer."
His first wife, Gloria, and his second wife, Edith, preceded him in death. He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara (Edward) Szlamczynski and Cynthia Lewis; son, Bob (Kim) Trudeau of Montana; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9:30 am -10:30 am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse. A service will follow at 10:30 at the funeral home. Burial will take place following the service in Woodlawn Cemetery.
