Richard S. Smith, 83, of North Syracuse, passed away on Monday peacefully at home. He was born on August 25, 1931 in Utica, son of the late George and Marjorie Smith. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS New Jersey during the Korean War. He graduated from Alfred State in 1957 and he received a BA in Science at Utica-Rome College in 1976. He worked at Carrier Corp. for 30 years and York International in York, PA before retiring. Richard was a member of the American Legion, the Korean War Veteran's Assoc. and the USS New Jersey Association. He was an avid reader and loved animals and most of all his country.

He was predeceased by his sister Virginia Evans and his son, David Matthew Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Mary "Ann" (McClelland), of 62 years, 4 children, Robin (Rev. Robert) Lucas, Richard (Debbie) Smith, Catherine Mitchell, Christine (Marty) Wallace, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister, Natalie Williams, brother Robert (Jan) Smith, a daughter-in-law, Kristine (Moran) Smith, along with many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., with services to follow. Committal services will be held on Friday 11am At Our Lady of Peace Mausoleum.
