Richard E. Merrill

Richard E. "Dick" Merrill, 86, of Cicero, passed away at home on Thursday. Dick graduated from Ithaca High in 1949. He met Dorothy on a blind date in the fall of 1949 and married in 1951. Dick served in the National Guard for 9 years. He retired from General Electric in 1991 after over 40 years of service. Dick has been a member of the North Sportsman Club for 48 years where he enjoyed shooting trap. He loved to wander in the Adirondacks to hunt and explore with his best friend, Frank.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Beulah Merrill and his brother, Glenn (Helen).

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; four children, Lynn Ann Fields, Virginia Jacob, Bryan (Kelly) Merrill and Patricia (Ronald) Stuart; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and a niece, Laurie (Frank) Varre.

Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse with a service to follow at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to North Sportsman Club, PO Box 1345, Cicero, NY 13039.
