Richard T. Melvin, 84, of Brewerton, NY, passed away November 10, 2023.
Richard was born in Cooperstown, New York on October 2, 1939 to Milton and Catharyn Melvin.
Richard was a self-employed contractor, retiring many years ago. He served in the Navy as an Airman in the late 1950's. He was stationed in San Francisco, CA and completed assignments in Adak, Alaska and Barbers Point, Hawaii.
One of his greatest achievements was becoming a pilot in the late 1960's.
In his free time, he enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle and cruising around in his customized truck. Richard was a frequent visitor to Ontario, Canada. He truly loved Bob's Lake and all his friends there. Spending time with his family in a cabin on the lake brought him his greatest joy.
He is preceded in death by his Sister, Lynda (Pat) Rumble of Indiana; Father, Milton F. Melvin; Mother, Catharyn Hare of North Syracuse, NY;
He is survived by his two sons, Daniel E. Melvin of Brewerton, N.Y. and Richard T. (Laura) Melvin Jr. of Weaver, AL; and his daughter, Teresa (Randy) McKesson of Weaver, AL; two Grandsons, Randy McKesson, II of Weaver, AL, Daniel Melvin, II of Brewerton, NY; Four Granddaughters, Casey Rae (Scott) Kennedy of Jacksonville, AL, Charlene Melvin of North Fort Myers, FL; Jordan (Michael) Welch of Grants Pass, Oregon; Bridgette Melvin of Jacksonville, FL; as well as eight greatgrandchildren; Two Nephews, Steve (Jill) Rumble of Goshen, IN and Phil (Pachia) Rumble of Mishawaka, IN; and several great nieces and nephews.
There will be a private celebration of his life on a warm, sunny day, next spring, at the lake he so loved.
