Richard F. Merrill Sr., 80, of Mud Mill Rd., Brewerton died at home.
Richard resided in Mattydale for many years before moving to Brewerton in 1987.
He was the son of the late William and Frances (Chandler) Merrill.
Dick worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance for 18 years, retired from Owens Illinois after 15 years. He also worked at Hinerwadels from the age of 15 until 80.
He was known as the "Fastest Clam Shucker" in CNY.
Dick enjoyed hunting at Connecticut Hill with his sons and nephews. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and going to the casino.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Dick was predeceased by his wives, Mary Tracy Merrill and Sharlene (Buckley) Merrill; brother, Robert; sister, Ruth Kleist and twin brother, Ronald.
Richard and Mary shared 41 memorable years together, raising 10 children.
Survivors include his children Richard F. Merrill, Jr. of Colorado, Mark (Karen) Merrill of Bridgeport, Timothy (Kris) Merrill of Mattydale, Lisa (Thomas Hazard) Placito of Mexico, Maryann Tracy of N. Syracuse, John Tracy of Liverpool, Mike Tracy of N. Syracuse, Patricia (John) Beaudoin of Cicero, Keenie (Joe) Hunter of Brewerton and Tom (Kathy) Tracy of Liverpool; 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Lorraine) Merrill of Mattydale; sister, Arlene Dacier of Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM on Tuesday at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday at St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
