Richard J. "Dick" Anderson Sr.

Richard "Dick" J. Anderson, Sr. 1931 - 2024 (92) passed away on July 10, 2024, at the St. Francis House in Syracuse, NY.

He was born in Michigan on September 28, 1931, to the late Murryl and Maybelle Anderson, and graduated from St. Lawrence University with degrees in Chemistry and Physics, and Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was the proverbial "Rocket Scientist," having worked in the aerospace field for many year before joining and ultimately retiring from Eastman Kodak.

Dick was a member of the prestigious Sigma Xi, the scientific research honor society. In addition to his career, he spent endless hours sharing his time, talent, and treasures with many charitable organizations, especially the Syracuse Erie Canal Museum. Dick was a lifelong railroad enthusiast and was a shareholder with the Livonia, Avon and Lakeville railroad. An avid reader, Dick loved railroad magazines and scientific journals. As many people can attest, Dick was a prolific storyteller, especially about his time during the golden years of Kodak.

Dick was predeceased by his wife Eva Maria (Linden) Anderson. His is survived by his son Richard J. Anderson, Jr., and his wife Kathleen; his son Jerold T. Anderson, Sr., and his wife Kathy; his brother Jack Anderson and his wife Ann; and his sister Kay Armstrong and her husband Scott. Dick has a total of seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a future date in the Memorial Garden of the Unitarian Church in Rochester, New York. In lieu of flowers, please remember Dick with a boat ride on the Erie Canal.
