Our beloved Reuben W. Hudson, 89, of Nedrow, went to heaven in his sleep on October 26, 2021.
Reuben was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on January 4, 1932, to Vernon and Lonia Mae Hudson. He was the oldest of several brothers and sisters, Laura Jewel (J.C) Roberts, Belinda Lynn (Jimmy) Grice, Luther (Mary) Hudson, Carl (Sarah) Hudson, Wydell (Annie) Hudson, and Edwin (Janie) Hudson.
Reuben was a member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church growing up in Mississippi, where he graduated from Louisville High School. Upon graduation, Reuben traveled to Harrisburg, PA where he worked at his uncle's restaurant, while living with is Aunt Pauline and Uncle North Jones.
He later enlisted in the United States Army and was severely injured in a Jeep accident. He received an honorable discharge.
In 1958, Reuben married Mandie Pearl Brown, then moved from Mississippi to Syracuse, N.Y. To this union, three children were born, Haywood, Walter, and Loniarene Hudson. Reuben worked several jobs before retiring from Syracuse University Environmental Forestry and Science. He volunteered at the American Red Cross for fourteen years and was a member of the American Legion for twenty-eight years. Reuben was a former member of the Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, where he made many longtime friends. Reuben and his wife later became members of the Pentecost Missionary Baptist Church.
Reuben enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, great food, talking to people often, watching the news, western movies, and sports. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mandie Pearl Hudson; mother, Lonia Mae Hudson; father, Vernon Hudson; son, Walter Hudson; and brothers, James and Jasper Hudson.
He is survived his children, Loniarene Hudson, and Haywood (Cameron) Hudson; six grandchildren, Ericka (Brandon) Jones, Tyniece Hudson, Lakiesha Hudson, Irene Hudson, Darren Hudson, and Rendale Hendrix; six great-grandchildren, Amir, Latazja, Saniya, R.J., Josiah, and Bryson; daughter in law, Judy Hudson; in-laws, Ann and R.D. Rudolph and Ora Hudson; a special nephew, Charles Rush; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Reuben will be terribly missed. He was greatly loved and will live on in the hearts of his family. May God the Father grant Reuben eternal rest in Jesus Christ.
Family and friends may call on November 2, 2021, from 10-12PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals where a service will follow at 12PM. Interment will be made in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
